Emmet Sheehan Open to Any Role on Dodgers’ Pitching Staff

One of the biggest reasons why the Dodgers’ found success last season was the performances from some unlikely candidates, especially within the pitching staff. With all the injuries that the Dodgers suffered last season, Los Angeles relied upon multiple young arms to get them through the season.

Right-hander Emmet Sheehan was one of those young pitchers, and he made a name for himself within the organization. Sheehan made 11 starts and 13 appearances with the Dodgers last season.

In those games, he posted a 4-1 record with a 4.92 ERA. Sheehan was dominant to start his career, but teams quickly caught up to him on the mound.

To his credit, he rebounded down the stretch of the season and made the postseason roster for the team. In the playoffs, Sheehan only appeared in one game. He posted an ERA of 7.36 over 3.2 innings of work.

Despite the tough ending to his season, Sheehan projects to be an important member of the Dodgers’ pitching staff again in 2024. At DodgerFest, Sheehan said that he is open to having any kind of role that the coaching staff needs from him this coming season.

Los Angeles may use Sheehan both within the starting rotation and out of the bullpen. He showed versatility last season doing both roles, which could massively impact how this team is built out for the year.

Having that type of flexibility from an arm is huge for the Dodgers, and it makes Sheehan valuable to the organization. The front office is very high on his upside, and if he can succeed again this season, he will likely be a long-term option.

Pitcher Michael Grove also said that he would be open to whatever role the team needs of him.

The team-first mindset is great to see from the young pitchers. Both Grove and Sheehan are expected to be major contributors to the season, and hopefully, they can directly impact L.A. winning another World Series.
