Teoscar Hernandez Makes it Clear: He Wants to Re-Sign With Dodgers

It didn’t take long for Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernández to make a statement about his free agency.

He doesn’t want to leave Los Angeles.

“The Dodgers will be my priority in free agency. I will do whatever is possible to return. It’s not in my hands, but if it were I’d pick them,” Hernandez said on ESPN Deportes after the Dodgers clinched the World Series with a 7-6 win in Game 5.

Hernández’s journey to being a World Series champion began in 2018 when he played his first full season in Major League Baseball. From there he won two Silver Sluggers but never won in the postseason until this year.

Surprisingly, he does have a World Series ring.

Hernández played one game for the 2017 Astros. He spent one day with the big league team getting called up from the minors and getting hurt the same day. He later returned to the minor and three months later, the Astros traded him for pitcher Francisco Liriano.

Jose Altuve pushed for Hernández to get a ring. But it doesn’t mean the same thing as playing for one and it really doesn’t come close because of the team he is on now.

“Just the unit. We’re all together in this. Like I always say, that we do not think about individual stuff. We just go there, we get ready, we prepare ourself to get to the field and find a way to win that night,” Hernández said following the World Series victory.

“I think that’s why the Dodgers have been one of the best in the last 15 to 10 years.”

Signing with the Dodgers in the offseason changed his life. He signed a one-year, $23.5 million deal that saw him collect $15 million in 2024 and will see him collect the remainder of the $8.5 million as deferred money from 2030 to 2039.

Hernández hit 33 home runs in the regular season, was named an All-Star for the second time, and became the first Dodger to win the Home Run Derby.

While his offense gets most of the attention, his defense is just as good. He led American League outfielders in assists last year. In four of the past six years, he has ranked among the top three.

Regardless of his stats, Hernández wants to remain a Dodgers for years to come.

  1. Roger that. Teo became a favorite at our house fast. Kike already was. BRING THE HERNANDEZ BOYS BACK.

  2. Pay the man what he deserves. There would have been no WS victory without him. Don’t be the same ol TAss dodgers and make the same mistake they did with Adrian Beltre, Greinke, Pedro Martinez. Dodgers have their pitchers for next year, Sign TEO, the guy has 4 good years left in him..
