Teoscar Hernandez Reveals Why He Left Dodgers to Travel Home on Monday

Teoscar Hernández is back with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night but out of the lineup for a second straight game.

Hernández missed his first game of the season on Monday due to what Dodgers manager Dave Roberts called “personal reasons.” On Tuesday, Hernández told Mike DiGiovanna the reason he was gone.

Hernández said he went home to the Dominican Republic to be with his family following the death of his 94-year-old grandfather. Hernández’s grandfather died on Sunday. He was “a huge baseball fan” according to Hernández.

Hernández is back with the team on Tuesday, but won’t be in the starting lineup. It’s possible he enters the game as a pinch-hitter, but Roberts said on Monday night he wanted to give Hernández another day off on Tuesday.

Hernández is in the midst of an incredible first year in Los Angeles. The 31-year-old is slashing .254/.321/.492 with 18 home runs and 54 runs batted in. He’s on pace to advance to Phase 2 of MLB All-Star voting later this week.
