Tony Gonsolin Still ‘A Few Weeks Away’ From Returning to Dodgers, Says Dave Roberts
Tony Gonsolin is inching closer to rejoining the Los Angeles Dodgers after undergoing Tommy John surgery in February 2024.
Gonsolin missed the entire 2024 season and has yet to make an MLB appearance in 2025. The Dodgers placed the right-handed starting pitcher on the 15-day injured list with back tightness on March 17, furthering delaying Gonsolin’s return.

Now, Gonsolin is rehabbing with Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 2022 NL All-Star has made two starts, his most recent coming on Wednesday when he pitched 3.1 innings, allowing one unearned run with seven strikeouts.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said this week that Gonsolin still has a few more weeks of rehab remaining. Roberts revealed the plan is for Gonsolin to reach five or six innings in his rehab starts before returning.
“He’s going to be built up to three innings (in his next rehab start),” Roberts said to Plunkett. “Then I think the plan for him is to make sure he gets up to five innings or potentially six innings. So, he’s a few weeks away.”
Before sustaining his forearm injury in August 2023, Gonsolin accrued a 4.98 ERA and logged 82 strikeouts in his most recent MLB season. Gonsolin posted ERAs of 3.23 or lower in his other four seasons with the Dodgers.
Los Angeles has been navigating several pitcher injuries and are cautious about rushing pitchers back from injury.
Starting pitcher Blake Snell is a recent addition to the 15-day IL as he deals with left shoulder inflammation. Two-way player Shohei Ohtani is also working his way toward his Dodgers debut on the mound.
Like Gonsolin, Ohtani has not pitched since 2023. Last season, Ohtani was recovering from surgery that restricted him to designated hitter. Ohtani is patiently progressing toward his debut to avoid sustaining any further injury.
Both Gonsolin and Ohtani will be valuable additions to the Dodgers rotation at some point in the future. However, Gonsolin is set to take the mound before Ohtani barring any setbacks.

Geez, and a finally healthy Buehler who showed his mettle in the playoffs as a major contributor to their WS win, was willing to sign with LAD for a QO. Today’s line in Boston: 6.1 IP, 4 hits, 1 ER, 7 Ks, 1 BB. Hated the offseason move and will hate it the rest of his career.
And for the haters who will say he’s had 2 JH surgeries, think about this. What pitcher do they have on their roster that everyone is dying to see him pitch again? Ohtani, who happens to be recovering from you guessed it, his second TJ surgery. Seriously, what were they thinking. But, hey, I love what Kershaw has meant to this team, but he’s done nothing for 2 seasons.
