VIDEO: Bob Costas Interviews Clayton Kershaw And Mike Trout

Prior to facing one another for the first time in the regular season, MLB Network’s Bob Costas sat down with Clayton Kershaw and Mike Trout, who are arguably the two best players in baseball.

With plenty of hype surrounding the Freeway Series, boosted by the idea it may be a World Series preview, Costas talked to both about their respective approaches to playing the game.

Kershaw discussed his respect for Trout and commended the center fielder for his style of play:

I love watching guys play and I love watching him play (Trout). He plays the right way and when you think about the best players in the game that’s how you want to be remembered for,” Kershaw said. “I want to respect the game and I want to play it the right way and whatever that means, running out a ground ball out as a pitcher or you know, understanding situations and not trying to show anybody up. Just trying to be competitive but at the same respecting everybody.”

Costas also addressed what many Southern Californian baseball fans are dreaming about this fall and the chances that both the Dodgers and Angels could face off in the World Series, which Kershaw believes would be fun for Los Angeles:

I mean that would be awesome obviously because you’d be in the World Series so that would be awesome,” Kershaw said. “I think we don’t want to get to ahead of ourselves. Obviously we have to make the postseason first and you know they’re right there in the thick of things (Angels) and you know you’ve got some higher priorities but you know if we both got there that would be so much fun for the city.

For both Kershaw and Trout, having the title of best players in the game comes with a lot of pressure to perform at the highest level and win. Each have shown they’re capable of meeting the high standards in the nation’s second-largest media market.

The next step for the duo is be guiding their respective teams to the World Series so as to put their talent on display on the game’s biggest stage.
