Yankees Manager Aaron Boone Takes Shot at Dodgers Players for Post-World Series Comments

The World Series loss appears to still sting New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone. It isn’t without merit, as several Los Angeles Dodgers have taken extra shots at the American League champions throughout the offseason.

Now, it’s Boone’s turn.

“They won,” Boone said on the Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata Show. “They had that right. A couple of people like saying some things. It’s like, ‘See what you did this year?’

“Like, it wasn’t the Freddie Freemans and Shoheis and Mookies popping off. It was some others. They won the World Series. We didn’t play our best, and they’re flying high right now, so we’ll try to get back to that stage and hopefully punch through.”

The Dodgers took down the Yankees in five games to win their second World Series title in five years. Highlights included Freddie Freeman’s walk-off grand slam in Game 1 and a disastrous fifth inning by the Yankees in Game 5.

At least four Dodgers have gone on the record with various outlets dissing the Yankees.

“They started kicking the ball around and playing Yankee defense,” reliever Joe Kelly said on the “Baseball Isn’t Boring” podcast.

“Their weakness was the way they make outs on the bases, the way they didn’t take care of the baseball, [their] lazy defense,” Miguel Rojas said on the “Chris Rose Sports” podcast.

“Everybody saw it. We’re all thinking it: (The Yankees) kind of (expletive) down their leg,” Chris Taylor said on Mookie Betts’ podcast.

“Man, I really didn’t want to say names here,” Michael Kopech told the “Baseball Isn’t Boring” podcast. “I’m just gonna say it. (First baseman Anthony) Rizzo made hundreds of mound visits in the World Series games. You can almost see the pitchers’ faces, just like, ‘What could they be talking about right now?’

“We had a running joke in the bullpen of ‘Rizzo visits remaining.’ Every time there was a visit, it was Rizzo.”

Boone wasn’t entirely wrong when describing the players who spoke the loudest. Kelly didn’t appear in the World Series at all, Taylor and Rojas were used sparingly, and Kopech pitched 3.2 innings out of the bullpen.

However, after winning the World Series, it’s hard to fault the Dodgers for doing their talking.

  1. The only thing that bugged me was that the Yankees have won like 2 dozen W.S., way more than any other Organization, yet the fans booed the Dodgers after they won the 5th and final game. That’s not very humble or honorable.

  2. Awww, poor Aaron, his team lost and he got his feelings hurt, by what probably less than classy comments by a couple of the D’s. How does he think his team would have reacted, especially Juan Soto?

Suck it up and quit whining. You lost, too bad.
