Andrew Friedman Asked Adrián González to Give Shohei Ohtani Care Package From Dodgers in 2016

The newest Los Angeles Dodgers superstar, Shohei Ohtani, was a hot commodity long before every common fan knew his name. The Japanese sensation started his baseball career in his home country, where he played for five seasons.

Every Major League team wanted him as soon as he became available, including the Boys in Blue. They wanted to do whatever they could to ensure he wore Dodger blue when he was ready to come to the big leagues.

L.A. took all their shots in the recruiting phase, one of which included former Dodger All-Star Adrián González. González shared a story with AM 570 Sports on how the Dodgers used him to try to recruit Ohtani back in 2016.

Even in 2016, president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman and the crew knew Ohtani would be a special talent. Ohtani has gone on to win two unanimous American League MVPs among other accomplishments during his time in the big leagues.

Although the care package wasn’t enough to land Ohtani the first time, Los Angeles got the job done this offseason. There was no under-the-table business going on this time, and the Dodgers front office was deliberate with their approach to landing Ohtani.

Still, fans appreciate González for putting in the effort for Los Angeles in their recruiting methods. González spent five seasons with the Dodgers, where he earned a Gold Glove award and Silver Slugger. He also led the league in RBIs in 2014.

Once a Dodger, always a Dodger! González is the real one for his attempt to land Ohtani for the team.
