Former Dodgers Pitcher Involved in Blockbuster Trade Hit By Line Drive, Lands on Injured List

Former Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Ryan Pepiot, who was part of the Tyler Glasnow trade in Dec. 2023, is heading to the injured list. Pepiot suffered a calf injury in his last outing and will head to the 15-day injured list.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times announced the news Wednesday via Twitter/X:

Right-hander Taj Bradley will replace Pepiot, who will start on Friday against the New York Yankees.Topkin also added that his injury is retroactive to Monday, which will allow the Rays to activate Pepiot as early as May 21.

Pepiot suffered the injury in his Sunday outing, when he got hit on his left calf by a 107.5-mph line drive by the New York Mets’ Starling Marte. The right-hander immediately fell to the ground but was able to get back up after the tough comebacker.

In his first year in Tampa, Pepiot holds a 3-2 record with a 3.68 ERA in seven starts.

Pepiot showed a lot of promise in his Dodger tenure; however, when the opportunity to acquire Glasnow came up, the Dodgers couldn’t pass on it. The Dodgers brass ended up trading Pepiot, along with outfielder Jonny DeLuca, for Glasnow and Manuel Margot. The Dodgers traded Margot to the Minnesota Twins along with Rayne Doncon and cash considerations in exchange for minor league shortstop Noah Miller.

The Dodgers drafted Pepiot in the third round of the 2019 MLB Draft. The 26-year-old made his debut with the Dodgers in May 2022. In his two-year career as a Dodger, he pitched in 78.1 innings and recorded a 5-1 record, 2.76 ERA, 80 strikeouts, 154 ERA+, and a 1.08 WHIP in 17 games and 10 starts.
