Ahead of the World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced that reliever Alex Vesia would be away from the team while he and his wife dealt with a “deeply personal family matter.”
To honor one of the most effective pieces of the bullpen, the rest of the Dodgers relievers wrote No. 51 on the side of their hats.

During Game 6, Blue Jays reliever Louis Varland was seen with the No. 51 on his hat. Upon further inspection, the rest of Toronto’s bullpen joined in on this incredible act.
Although it is unclear what Vesia and his family are going through, the support given from both teams goes beyond baseball.
Through the postseason, Vesia earned four holds and two wins, totaling an ERA of 3.86 across seven appearances.
Amid the constant bullpen struggles this season, Vesia’s leadership and talents on the mound were key.
While he’s been missed throughout the World Series, the Dodgers are keeping him in their thoughts and prayers.
