Breaking: Dodgers Sign First-Round Draft Pick Kellon Lindsey to $3.3 Million Contract

The Dodgers have signed their first-round draft pick, high school shortstop Kellon Lindsey. His minor league contract comes with a $3.3 million signing bonus.

Lindsey passed his physical and the contract became official Tuesday.

The 23rd overall pick in the recently completed amateur draft, Lindsey hit .403/.567/597 in 25 games as a senior at Hardee High School in Wauchula, Florida. He was also the school’s quarterback on the football team.

“He’s a dynamic athlete, and shortstops are so hard to find,” Dodgers vice president of baseball operations Billy Gasparino said in a statement. “We also love his work ethic, and we think he’s going to be a very prototype Dodger player that we all like and are rooting for in the future.”

Lindsey, 18, was considered among the fastest players in the draft class. According to MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo, Lindsey recorded the fastest 30-yard sprint at the MLB Draft Combine, clocking in at 3.538 seconds.

Although the $3.3 million bonus is considered under slot for the No. 23 pick ($3,676,400), it’s the largest bonus the Dodgers have given to a first-round draft pick since Zach Lee in 2010 ($5.25 million).
