Clayton Kershaw: Reasons to Love The Dodgers Ace on his 35th Birthday

Clayton Kershaw turned 35 years old today and that’s something to celebrate. The long-time Dodgers ace is entering his 16th big league season with LA and 18th season with the organization overall.

The Dodgers signed Kershaw out of Texas in the 2006 MLB draft. He signed in June of that year and the start of a Hall of Fame career was underway.

Along the way, he’s become a husband and a father four times over. He also helped bring the Dodgers the seventh World Series title in franchise history.

So, here for his 35th b-day, we thought it would be fun to take a quick look back at some of the best moments and little things about Clayton that make us love him that much more. We’re doing that with a little help from our friends.

Here’s that video from Mister C above. It is Kershaw’s 2013 opening day masterpiece against the Giants.

Greg, of course, is talking about Clayton and Ellen Kershaw’s annual Ping Pong 4 Purpose charity ping pong tournament held at Dodger Stadium. Over the course of the last decade, Clayton and Ellen’s “Kershaw’s Challenge” charity has raised millions of dollars for at risk children and brought awareness to numerous causes in the Los Angeles and Dallas communities, and all around the world.

“We Are Young” by the group “Fun” has been Kershaw’s walk out song for years. It still brings chills to fans at the ballpark.

Kershaw by the Numbers

More reasons to love Clayton is his outright dominance over the course of his career. Over the last 15 years with the Dodgers, Kersh has:

  • 197 wins, most for a LHP in franchise history
  • 2,807 strikeouts, most in Dodger history
  • 1 NL MVP award
  • 3 NL Cy Young awards
  • 9 NL All-Star berths
  • A gold glove award
  • 5 NL ERA crowns
  • 13 postseason wins
  • 1 World Series ring

Clayton Kershaw has meant so much to the Dodgers over the last decade and a half. There will be a day when he decides to hang up spikes so soak up what you can with the legend while you still can!
