Dave Roberts Confirms Non-Roster Invitee Will Make the Dodgers’ Bullpen

As the regular season inches closer, the Dodgers have started making cuts to the roster. While the position players for 2024 seem set, the pitching staff remains fluid.

One of those spots in the bullpen seems to have been claimed. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times, announced that Daniel Hudson will return to the bullpen this year.

Since coming to the Dodgers in 2022, Hudson has pitched well for the team. The caveat, though, is that he has only pitched 27.1 innings over the last two years.

In 2022, he had a 2.22 ERA in 24.1 innings before tearing his ACL in June and missing the rest of the year. When he returned in 2023 he looked like his normal self and pitched three shutout innings. Unfortunately, he sprained the MCL in his other knee which ended his season.

He contemplated retirement this offseason but decided to give it one more shot with the Dodgers. Los Angeles brought him back on a minor-league deal with the opportunity to make the major league roster.

It seems like the Dodgers have seen enough from Hudson to report that he will contribute to the bullpen this year. However, they might delay the start of his season, so there’s no guarantee he will break camp with the team.

So far, Hudson has made four appearances this spring training allowing two earned runs and giving up a home run.
