Dave Roberts Noncommittal on Chris Taylor’s Role for Dodgers in 2025
When it comes to the final spot on the Los Angeles Dodgers roster, manager Dave Roberts is noncommital about who he has in mind for it.
At this point, Roberts will likely have to choose between James Outman, Andy Pages, and Chris Taylor.
Roberts was asked about Taylor’s role specifically Tuesday at Camelback Ranch and his answer puts more pressure on Taylor.

“I don’t know right now,” Roberts said.
Roberts added that Taylor’s “superpower” of being able to do whatever is asked of him and play everywhere gives him a slight advantage.
“It could be from third base to center field to left field,” Roberts added, and then mentioned second base.
Once the Dodgers re-signed Kiké Hernández, two available roster spots became one. While Hernández doesn’t play daily during the regular season, he is superhuman during the postseason which is a big reason why Los Angeles brought him back.

Taylor, selected by the Seattle Mariners in the fifth round of the 2012 MLB Draft out of the University of Virginia, was traded to the Dodgers in 2016. He has been a key player for the Dodgers since 2017.
After an impressive All-Star 2021 season, the Dodgers rewarded him with a four-year, $60 million contract. However, Taylor has struggled to meet expectations since then. This is the final guaranteed year of his contract, though the Dodgers hold a club option for the 2026 season valued at $12 million.
Taylor is aiming to rediscover the form that led to his first All-Star selection with the Dodgers in 2021, when he posted a .254 batting average, 20 home runs, 73 RBIs, and 13 steals.
Last season, Taylor faced significant struggles, hitting just .170/.281/.263 over 70 games. However, he showed signs of improvement in September, finishing the year strong with a .333 average and an .822 OPS in his final 17 games.
