Dave Roberts Provides Update on Freddie Freeman, Reveals Timeline to Return to Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without Freddie Freeman for at least a week as he was placed on the injured list due to his ankle injury.

The move was retroactive to March 31, meaning Freeman would be eligible to come off the IL when the Dodgers return home from their current six-game home stand next week.
The first game Freeman would be able to return is on April 11 for the team’s series opener against the Chicago Cubs. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Friday he’s hoping that’s when Freeman will be healthy enough to play.
Freeman re-injured his ankle slipping in the shower this past Sunday. While the All-Star first baseman felt good enough to play during the series against the Atlanta Braves this week, the Dodgers wanted to exercise caution.
Freeman was expected to travel with the team for their road trip, but the Dodgers again decided against it. Instead, Freeman stayed back in Los Angeles, and won’t be with the team for their series in Philadelphia or in Washington, D.C. He’ll also miss the team’s visit to the White House on Monday.

While Roberts said he thinks Freeman would be able to play this week, he noted the “potential downside” of making it worse, especially with all the traveling. Since Freeman wasn’t 100 percent even before the slip, the Dodgers felt this was a good time to give him more than a week off to heal.
The Dodgers called up catcher Hunter Feduccia to replace Freeman on the active roster. The expectation is for Kiké Hernández to get extended run at first base in Freeman’s absence.
