Dave Roberts Reveals When Tony Gonsolin Will Make Dodgers Debut in 2025
The Los Angeles Dodgers currently have 12 pitchers on the injured list, but some All-Star-caliber help is on the way.
Manager Dave Roberts recently spoke on when Tony Gonsolin, who has been away from MLB action for over 20 months, will make his long-awaited 2025 debut. When asked about if the All-Star right-hander could be back as soon as this week, the skipper seemed hopeful.

“He threw a ’pen today and so he is in line to start here this week, and that makes a lot of sense,” Roberts said.
Gonsolin could start Wednesday for the Dodgers, potentially.
The significance of Gonsolin recovering in time to return for the series with the Miami Marlins this week is that the last team he pitched in August 2023 was against the Marlins, nonetheless, at Dodger Stadium. It wasn’t exactly his best outing during that last appearance, but it was largely due to the elbow discomfort he was dealing with that year.
After undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2023, Gonsolin was out of commission for quite some time. He got close to making an October return last season after a few rehab starts in Triple-A, but wasn’t activated to the postseason roster.
This past spring, Gonsolin was close to cracking the starting rotation, but a back injury while lifting weights further set him back on his long road to returning.
In his four Triple-A rehab outings in 2025, Gonsolin has a 3.21 ERA with 16 strikeouts to six walks. Especially for a Dodgers team that needs pitching help at the moment, it appears that things are lining up perfectly for the All-Star to return to the mound.
