Dave Roberts to Be Away From Dodgers During Crucial Padres Series

While the Dodgers look to take game two of the series against the Padres in San Diego they’ll do so without their skipper. At least for one game. Manager Dave Roberts will be away from the team as he attends his son Cole’s college graduation.

Bench coach Danny Lehmann will act as the manager for the night. And, presumably, Bob Geren as his bench coach.

Dustin May will get the ball against left-hander Blake Snell on Saturday with a tested bullpen ready to fire after having to cover 4+ innings on Friday night.

Other Dodgers News

  • The Dodgers are expected to lose lefty reliever Caleb Ferguson any day now as he and his wife Carissa are expecting their first baby.
  • Reliever Jimmy Nelson, who was sent out on a minor league rehab assignment early last week hasn’t made an appearance at Triple-A since his first night with the club. He’s reportedly returned to the Dodgers’ spring training complex in Arizona. The veteran signed back with LA on a one year, $1.2 million deal this past winter after missing the entire 2022 season following 2021 Tommy John surgery. His future in baseball is very much up in the air.
  • The Dodgers considered giving Gavin Stone one more start with the big league club but the upcoming schedule worked against him with the day off on Thursday and another one coming up next Thursday, Dave Roberts said he didn’t want to get starting pitchers too far off of their routines.

  1. I’m starting to think Kershaw might be better pitching every 6 days instead of 5. And pushing Thor to 6 days keeps him from pitching as much!

  2. Best thing that could happen to team.. they might have a fighting chance with this game.. with him away,,lets all home it is 2 games

  3. Soooooo, what’s going on with Nelson now? He went OKC to finish up his rehab, but … Hasn’t pitched there yet?…. Now he’s at the Dodgers AZ facility? Why!?
I like Nelson. He has a great upside
