Dodgers: Austin Barnes Leaves Game After Foul Ball Off His Mask

The Dodgers are underway with their Cactus League games this Spring. And while getting guys back into game shape is important, keeping their starters and key players healthy is very important at this stage.

Earlier today, Austin Barnes had to come out of the Dodgers game against the White Sox a little early. He came out in the bottom of the 4th inning after reportedly taking a foul ball off of his facemask and was replaced by Tomas Telis behind the plate.

Dave Roberts said after the game that Barnes would have to be reevaluated tomorrow after taking that foul ball. The Dodgers catcher was feeling a little foggy, as you can imagine with taking a ball right off of the mask.

Barnes exited the game after hitting his first homerun of Spring Training. Overall, he is batting .400 and has driven in 3 runs to start his Cactus League. He will likely retain his role from 2021, where he worked as Clayton Kershaw’s catcher and got Will Smith some days off of his feet when needed. The addition of the universal DH also makes it so that Barnes could see some extra time in 2022.

In 77 games last year, Barnes slashed .215/.299/.345 and hit 6 homeruns for the Dodgers. It was the most longballs he had hit since the 2017 season when he was more of a consistent starter for Los Angeles.
