Dodgers Blockbuster Trade Proposal Brings Rafael Devers to LA as Multiple All-Stars Head Out
The offseason of the decade may not be over quite yet.
Despite the injuries, the October demons of years past, the criticism cast from the baseball world, and everything else that came their way in 2024, the Los Angeles Dodgers were crowned champions once again. Since then, the front office has seemingly forgotten that this roster has just won a championship as the team’s executives have been doing everything they can to improve the squad.
Cy Young award-winners, international phenoms, postseason heroes, and core pieces from last season’s title run have all joined together to try and help the Dodgers become baseball’s first back-to-back champions in a quarter-century.
Over in the American League, Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer has been monitoring a situation brewing ever since the Boston Red Sox inked a deal with All-Star Alex Bregman.
Much like when the Dodgers signed shortstop Hyeseong Kim and later traded previous shortstop Gavin Lux, many believe that Boston bringing in a lethal third baseman spells a split with their current man on the hot corner, Rafael Devers.
Devers, a three-time All-Star and World Series champion during his eight seasons with the Red Sox, has expressed no interest in playing somewhere that isn’t third base on Opening Day.
A disgruntled star plus a relentless front office may be the perfect combination to get Devers in a new uniform.
Rymer’s proposal sees some fan favorites heading to Boston, but with the kind of lineup it would produce, the trade might end up being worth it.
In exchange for Devers, the Red Sox would acquire Max Muncy, Chris Taylor, Bobby Miller, and Alex Freeland (L.A.’s No. 4 prospect)
Boston gets quite a haul including a current third baseman in Muncy, a utility man in Taylor, a young pitcher ready to have a bounce-back year in Miller, and one of the game’s top infield prospects.
Devers’ 28 home runs, 3.7 WAR, and 83 RBIs from last season would be welcomed with open arms in Los Angeles, as much as it would initially sting to part ways with some long-tenured Dodgers.

Me: “The Red Stockings do not want another 3B, they don’t Muncy, the whole point is to open up 3B for Bregman.”
Writer: “Oh, yeah, I guess I didn’t think about that.”
Totally agree. Dodgers won’t give up a leader in the club house like Muncy. We would have Aranado already if that was the case.
It’s sad when you have to pay players from other teams to win. No confidence in your lousey farm club, i guess.
Thank you! So sick of sports writers planning our next move.
He plays 1st and 2nd as well, duh
This is a stretch to say the least. Dodgers prioritize players who display team mentality – players who will move around the diamond, even learning new positions, in order to help the team win. In his press conference, Devers was asked what he would say if the Red Sox front office wanted him to transition to Designated Hitter. His answer: “No.” This is not a mentality the Dodgers value. Not to mention, that answer was given at a public press conference, not behind closed doors. No chance Rafael Devers will be a Dodger on opening day.
Exactly my point in a previous post. Not the type of guy the Dodgers have been prioritizing in their clubhouse. It’s absolutely NOT just about talent.
They have enough talent that they are lucky to be able to prioritize the clubhouse at this point. Devers definitely doesn’t fit that mold. Also, this isn’t great value for the BoSox. Muncy is better off playing 1st or DH-ing, but Taylor is a hot mess, Miller had an awful season last year, and prospects certainly aren’t a guarantee. Dumb prediction all the way around.
Leave the Dodgers Roster alone. We don’t want Devers because he has no flexibility.
Muncy is more valuable…. then Devers… Muncy can play 3rd, 2nd and 1st… No way is this a fair trade…. And not say Muncy has more playoff experience than Devers…. If Devers tells Boston he wants out we can pull some prospects and cash to send there way…. Devers would have to share 3rd with Muncy..
DO NOT TRADE MAX MUNCY! Devers is not Dodger material. Let’s play Baseball LA.
This is a complete non-starter idea. There is no possibility Dodgers’ front office would entertain a deal giving up both prospects and current clubhouse veterans in exchange for a player with a below average glove and a me first attitude.
Max does seem to be a bit injury prone, even aside from last year, but last years WAR was a respectable 3.0 vs Devers 3.7, and Max had far fewer games to produce it, his RBI and HR numbers, per game, are slightly better. BA is admittedly worse. Fielding percentage is about the same. He’s older, but Devers has a monster contract to be paid.
AND to shuffle off Bobby Miller? I just don’t see it. I know they would like to move CT3, but this seems like an awfully expensive way to do it .
Devers batting numbers are better. As you say, he is no better in the field. This might be a slight upgrade at talent at 3rd base, but not that much, Considering you are also giving up the Ds “shortstop of the future”, and a talented if underperforming-so-far pitcher, and bringing in a guy who doesn’t fit the Ds flex-position culture, it looks like a washout to me.
Maybe as a way to offload Taylor, but I’m not sure that is enough.
This trade could shake up both teams—Devers would boost the Dodgers’ lineup, but losing key players might be a tough pill to swallow for fans.
The Dodgers will make another trade before the season starts but only the “brain trust” knows who they will target. Probably not Devers. I would still be surprised if it is not an outfielder or, forgive me, a shortstop.
Dodgers afe players who are willing to do what it takes. To be better team wouldn’t fit I nour culture
April 1st already? If LAD needed 3B help they could’ve got Bergman.
Even better, they could have gotten – still could get – Arenado.
Could they just trade Taylor for a prospect or two?
Not at 15 million they can’t. We would have to pay down the contract and alive up a prospect.
