Dodgers’ Bobby Miller Breaks Down Dominant Performance in 2024 Debut

The Los Angeles Dodgers look like the team we all thought they’d be through four games of the season. The bats are alive and well, the bullpen is solid, and the starting pitching is holding their own. We’ve only seen three different starting pitchers so far, but we have yet to see a performance as dominant thus far as Bobby Miller‘s on Friday night.

The second-year pitcher couldn’t do anything wrong, putting together a career night against the St. Louis Cardinals. Miller pitched and looked like the ace the Dodgers believe he can be. The former top prospect recapped his dominant night and elaborated on what worked for him.

“Everything was kind of working for me tonight,” Miller said. “The command of the fastball down, it’s something I emphasize a lot. Trying to command that fastball at a high velocity, I think it’s a good pitch if you can command it down and away. Honestly every single pitch felt really good for me tonight.”

The 24-year-old pitched six strong innings, collecting 11 strikeouts (a career-high) and didn’t allow a run, while giving up only two hits. Miller had his best outing of his big league career, and looks ready to make that leap and become a key piece in the rotation.

Dave Roberts surely thinks he can do that.

“He’s a big piece to the puzzle,” Roberts said. “He’s a top-end guy. He’s proving that now.”

After his last strikeout, one of the many dominant pitches he threw, Miller let a big roar out while the crowd went wild. Miller spoke about what the crowd’s energy meant to him and how that helped him propel his performance.

“That was awesome,” Miller said. “I haven’t felt anything like that before. That definitely gives me a lot of confidence out there to hear the fans like that. The roar like that. And it gave me a lot of confidence. I was pretty fired up after because the previous few betters my command was starting to get a little worse. A couple of three ball counts. So that felt really good.”

This is only the beginning for the former top prospect. If the Dodgers can get performances like this out of Miller while the others produce and the rotation gets healthy, the Boys in Blue could have the best collection of starting pitchers in the league this season.
