Dodgers News: Bobby Miller Reflects On Strong Rookie Season

One of the biggest surprises from the 2023 season for the Dodgers was the production from rookie starting pitcher Bobby Miller. Miller made his debut in May and took off from there, becoming one of the more important pieces to this team.

Not even the Dodgers could have seen Miller’s emergence come as quickly as this, and they remain very high on him going forward. He has lights-out stuff on the mound and has the look of being an ace for this team for the foreseeable future. He recently changed his uniform number from a rookie-like 70 to a more mature 28.

During an appearance with SportsNet LA, Miller reflected on his strong first season in the big leagues, acknowledging that there were some ups and downs.

“I feel like I grew a lot this year. I’m pretty happy about the year overall, obviously not the ending of it. But for a rookie year, I felt like it was pretty good. I had a good start. There were a lot of ups and downs, but I learned a lot from it.”

Miller posted an ERA of 3.76 over 22 starts this past season, and a WHIP of 1.10. He also struck out 119 batters over 124.1 innings of work.

Miller became the go-to guy for the Dodgers and even started Game 2 of their playoff series. He also looked back on some of his favorite moments from the past season.

“End of the year in Colorado, I was about to be taken out, I was maybe gonna be taken out of a game, but I was kept in and got out of the inning with no runs and that’s something I was really proud about.”

Miller showed the rare ability to get better with each start, and that is something that makes him special. He didn’t let the pressure of being a big-league pitcher get to him but rather embraced it fully.

He is going to have a rotation spot next season, and the Dodgers are banking on him getting even better. That should be a scary thought for opposing teams, but a beautiful one for Dodgers fans.
