Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman Reveals What It Means to Hit Home Run in Front of Family in Toronto
Freddie Freeman’s solo home run in the sixth inning against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday had more meaning behind it than a run on the scoreboard.
Freeman was raised in Orange County but has Canadian roots. Both of his parents were born in Ontario, Canada, and the weekend was a family affair reuniting with family friends and playing baseball in front of family in Toronto for just the second time in his career and the first time since 2021.
“Being here in Toronto, in this special place for our family, I’m happy I was able to do that for (my dad),” Freeman said. “It’s just been a good trip for my dad and I and my stepmom.”
Freeman’s mother, Rosemary, passed away when he was 10 and continued to make a significant impact on her son’s life.
“She’s right on the forefront of everything, pretty much everything I do is for her,” he said. “Coming back to Toronto, especially in a place where she was born and grew up, it’s always special.”
Canada is near and dear to the first baseman’s heart. He has represented the country at the World Baseball Classic in 2017 and 2023.
