ICYMI: Dodgers News: Scheduled Pitchers For Today’s Game

First Through Third Innings

First Inning

T: Jeff Samardzija is on the mound for the Giants, and the first pitch of the game is a called strike to Carl Crawford. Crawford promptly struck out swinging on an 0-2 pitch in the dirt. Joc Pederson, who is batting second today, went down on a called third strike on the outside corner on a 1-2 count. Yasiel Puig goes down swinging on a 1-2 pitch. Samardzjia strikes out the side in the first. Zach Lee to pitch for the Dodgers in the bottom half.

B: Gregor Blanco singles past a diving Micah Johnson on the 7th pitch of the at-bat to leadoff the inning. Joe Panik lifted a lazy fly ball to left field, but Carl Crawford flat out drops it for an E-7. Runners on 1st & 2nd, 0 outs. Lee gets Brandon Crawford to fly out to shortstop Kike Hernandez for the first out. Jarrett Parker, the Giants’ cleanup hitter today, strikes out looking for the second out. Conor Gillaspie flies out to right fielder Yasiel Puig for the final out. Lee strands two runners on base after a tough start to the inning.

Score: Dodgers 0, Giants 0

Second Inning

T: Chase Utley pops out to third baseman Grant Green to open up the inning. Scott Van Slyke gets the Dodgers their first baserunner of the afternoon as he singles up the middle with two strikes. Runner on 1st, 1 out for catcher A.J. Ellis. Unfortunately, Ellis grounded into an inning-ending 5-4-3 double play.

B: Kelby Tomlinson, San Francisco’s shortstop, hits a sharp grounder to short, and he is retired to open the bottom half of the inning. Catcher Trevor Brown followed Tomlinson by lining out to shortstop. Grant Green grounded out to shortstop to end the inning. Quick 1-2-3 inning by Lee, and all three outs were handled by Kike Hernandez.

Score: Dodgers 0, Giants

Third Inning

T: Samardzija back out there for the third inning, and Hernandez grounds out to Green at third base. Heck of a dig by Gillaspie at first base. Micah Johnson delivers a one out line drive single to right field. Cody Bellinger smashes a line drive just over the outstretch glove of the shortstop, and now the Dodgers have 1st & 3rd with 1 out for Crawford. The Dodgers take a 1-0 lead as Crawford drives Johnson in with a single over the second baseman. Bellinger takes 2nd, and there’s 1st & 2nd with one out again. Pederson goes down looking for the second time today. Puig with an infield single to shortstop, and the bases are loaded. Utley struck out swinging to end the inning, but the Dodgers get the game’s first run.

HIGHLIGHT

B: Adam Liberatore in to pitch now for Los Angeles. Gorkys Hernandez promptly greets him with a single through the hole between short and third. Blanco grounds out to second base, but the runner was moving so it’s just a force out at first rather than a double play. Panik grounds out to second base for the second out, and Hernandez is now on third base with two outs and Crawford coming up. A wild pitch in the dirt allows the runner from third to score, and then Liberatore gets Crawford to strike out to end the inning. But the Giants have pushed a run across to tie this one up again.

Score: Dodgers 1, Giants 1

Fourth Through Sixth Innings

Fourth Inning

T: Van Slyke works a leadoff walk. Ellis made the first out of the inning by popping out to first base. Hernandez flies out to right field for the second out. Johnson strikes out swinging to end the inning, and the Dodgers strand Van Slyke’s leadoff walk.

B: Ross Stripling in to pitch for Los Angeles. Stripling gets Parker to ground out for a 3-1 putout. Gillaspie works a one-out walk for San Francisco. Tomlinson flies out to Puig for the second out, runner still stuck on first base. Stripling gets Brown to go down looking to end the inning.

Score: Dodgers 1, Giants 1

Fifth inning

T: Bellinger gets a leadoff single just beyond the outstretched glove of Panik. Crawford split the gap in left-center and recorded an RBI triple to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead! For the third time today, Pederson strikes out. Yikes. Puig hits a line drive sac fly to left field, and Los Angeles now leads 3-1! Utley grounds out to short to end the top half, but not before the Dodgers cash in a couple of runs to retake the lead at 3-1.

B: Green singles on a 12-hopper up the middle for a leadoff hit. Stripling then hits Hernandez on a 2-2 count to put runners on 1st & 2nd with 0 outs. Stripling then gets a 4-6-3 double play. Runner on 3rd, 2 outs now. Panik pops out to center fielder to end the fifth. No damage done.

Score: Dodgers 3, Giants 1

Sixth Inning

T: Van Slyke singles in the hole between short and third to kickstart the sixth. Ellis grounds into a 6-4-3 double play to erase the inning-opening hit. Hernandez hit the living hell out of a baseball for a 10 foot single in front of the plate. Johnson puts a charge into a ball in left field, but it’s ran down for the final out.

B: Matt West comes into the game for the Dodgers, and Brandon Crawford promptly greets him by hitting a home run to right field that skirts just over the fence. 3-2 Dodgers. Parker grounds out to first base, and Bellinger makes a nice play to record the out himself. New center fielder Corey Brown runs down Gillaspie’s drive for the second out. West gets the third out on a grounder to third, but the Giants cut into the lead a little bit.

Score: Dodgers 3, Giants 2

Seventh Through Ninth Innings

Seventh Inning

T: Rob “Babe Ruth” Segedin begins the 7th by actually striking out. That’s weird. Trayce Thompson then gets jammed, but flares the ball to center field for a one out single. Austin Barnes then grounds into an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play. Nothing going there. TIME TO STRETCH!

B: Chase De Jong is the Dodgers’ new pitcher for this inning. Charlie Culberson makes the play at short and throws over to first to record the first out. Green pops out to Thompson in right field for the second out. De Jong has a 1-2-3 inning. Onto the 8th we go!

Score: Dodgers 3, Giants 2

Eighth Inning

T: Rico Noel smacks a leadoff single into center field to get the inning started, and then he stole second base. Corey Brown worked a full count walk, runners on 1st & 2nd with 0 outs now. Alex Hassan gets hit by a pitch, and the Dodgers now have the bases loaded with nobody out. Charlie Culberson drops in a little looper into right field, and 2 runs score! 5-2 Dodgers! #Culberson2016. Brandon Hicks then grounds into a 5-4-3 double play. Runner on 3rd, 2 outs now. Elian Herrera grounds out to shortstop to end the inning, but Los Angeles tacks on two runs to their lead.

B: De Jong walks the leadoff batter, which is not ideal. A 4-6-3 double play wipes out the leadoff walk. Mac Williams lines a two-out double into the right-center field gap, which brings up Ryan Lollis for a RBI chance. Lollis grounds out to the shortstop Culberson to end the inning. To the 9th!

Score: Dodgers 5, Giants 2

Ninth Inning

T: Rob Segedin opens the ninth with a lineout to short. Thompson then flew out to left field for a quick second out. Austin Barnes ends the inning by getting caught looking on strike three. 3 outs to go!

B: Logan Bawcom comes on to close out the game, and he retires the first batter on a fly ball to left field. Hak-Ju Lee draws a one-out walk, which brings up Andrew Susac. Bawcom fans Susac for the second out. 1 out to go! Lee takes 2nd base on defensive indifference. One strike to go. Rico Noel makes a fantastic catch in left field to end the game! Dodgers win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FINAL SCORE: DODGERS 5, GIANTS 2

  1. I am concerned about Joc. He seems confused and like he did nothing in the offseason. Regressed in fact. He only has so much time to right the ship.
