Dodgers: How The 2022 LA Team Was Built

Being a sports fan gives you the best of both worlds. You get to watch your professional sports teams all season long while also pretending to be a general manager whether it is through fantasy or who you feel your team should draft or trade for.

Every off-season is always the same and there is always one shiny player every fan wants. Luckily for the common fans, we don’t have to go through the nitty gritty decisions the front office personnel deal with

The goal ultimately becomes to build the best team possible at a chance of winning the grand prize at the end of the season. The Dodgers seemed to have done very well in that department and are poised to make a deep postseason run, but how exactly did they get here?

MLB.com gave fans an inside look at how the makeup of the 12 playoff teams were built based off of homegrown talent or through trades, free agents and waivers. Of the 26 acquisitions for the Dodgers this season, 11 of the players were acquired via trade or waivers, eight players were homegrown, and seven were acquired through free agency (based off of Wild Card rosters and project NLDS roster).

With 111 wins and 10 consecutive playoff appearances, it appears the Dodgers have found their formula of building great teams.

“Los Angeles received more free-agent production than any other playoff club, led by Freddie Freeman, Tyler Anderson, Max Muncy and Justin Turner, and it also had the best waiver claim in Evan Phillips. Two of the Dodgers’ three best players this season (Mookie Betts, Trea Turner) arrived via trades, while the perennially strong farm system contributed Julio Urías, Tony Gonsolin, Will Smith, Clayton Kershaw and Gavin Lux.”

The Dodgers dominated in all facets with key contributors coming from every direction. The Dodgers have kept this up for a very long time and don’t show any signs of slowing down their process.
