Dodgers: Jake Reed’s Wild Ride with Los Angeles Continues

At some point, you really just have to feel bad for Jake Reed. The journeyman pitcher was just designated for assignment when the Dodgers officially announced the JD Martinez signing. Just a few weeks prior, Reed was claimed off waivers from the Red Sox.

It was the third time the Dodgers have claimed him over the last two calendar years. And with his most recent DFA, that’s the third time the club has DFA’d him over the last two calendar years.

By all accounts, Jake Reed is a good dude. And he had his best moment yet as a big leaguer in a Dodger uniform. Last summer, the right-hander earned a gutty save against the Mets in New York — notably, the Mets are another team that has waiver claimed and DFA’d Reed. It was the first save of his career and he let out a roar in celebration coming off the mound after shutting the door.

His teammates celebrated with him in the clubhouse afterward, showering him with beer and congratulations.

He was designated for assignment three days later.

By this point, Jake Reed has to despise those three words. Designated. For. Assignment. He’s heard them seven (!) times alone since last year.

Seriously, his transactions page since 2021 is a sight to behold.

Over parts of his three tours of duty with the Dodgers, Reed has a 2.70 ERA in 11 games. For his career, he owns a 2-1 record with a 5.74 ERA over 28 games.
