Dodgers: Joe Kelly Reflects on Exchange with Carlos Correa

Free agent reliever Joe Kelly has had a few memorable moments in Dodger blue, but none better than his exchange with Astros shortstop Carlos Correa in 2020.

The Asterisks sign stealing scandal had come to light that offseason. According to multiple reports, Houston had been stealing signs throughout 2017 and 2018. Meaning, Houston did not meet the Dodgers in the 2017 World Series on a level playing field.

Despite the fact that Kelly wasn’t a Dodger at the time, the reliever clearly communicated his thoughts on the cheating Asterisks when the two teams met during the 60-game season.

Kelly threw at Correa and taunted the shortstop after striking him out. At that moment, a Dodgers folk hero was born.

As is tradition, Jomboy did one of his famous video breakdowns of the at-bat. On Wednesday, Kelly confirmed that most of the commentary of the Jomboy breakdown is spot on. Kelly explained during his interview on AM570’s Dodger Talk with David Vassegh.

“He got 99% of it right for sure. I’ve definitely seen it. I’ve seen most of his stuff people show me. He probably only missed maybe three words honestly. He got everything pretty spot on. It’s almost like he called me and did an interview. He was really good, it was pretty spot on.”

Last season, Kelly produced a 2.86 ERA in 44 IP. According to the righty, there’s “mutually interest” between Kelly and the Dodgers.

Once the lockout ends, don’t be surprised if the hard throwing righty re-signs with LA.
