Dodgers List Their Starting Rotation For Cubs Series
The Dodgers will head out to Chicago to take on the Cubs for a 3-game set this weekend. After two off days in the middle of the week, there were questions about what direction Dave Roberts would go with his starting staff. But naming Tony Gonsolin as his starter for Wednesday night’s game seemed to cement the order.
The Dodgers will go with Tyler Anderson, Clayton Kershaw, and Walker Buehler in this series. Anderson is pitching in the spot that would have been Andrew Heaney’s but he is still on the injured list with a shoulder issue.
So let’s take a look at some of the matchups set for this weekend.
Tyler Anderson vs (likely) Drew Smyly
Anderson is coming off of a start in which he allowed one earned against the Tigers over 5 innings. It was a pretty typical outing from him aside from going an extra inning this time around. He could face off against Drew Smyly, who is currently on the bereavement list. So far, he has allowed 6 earned runs across his 19.1 innings of work for the Cubbies.
Clayton Kershaw vs Steele
Clayton Kershaw gets another chance to keep his hot streak up in a matchup on Saturday. Kersh allowed 1 earned runs against the Tigers in 6 innings of work over the weekend, striking out 7. He’ll go up against Justin Steele, who has allowed 11 earned runs across 18 innings of work so far. He has also walked 11 batters and has pitched through the 5th inning just once.
Walker Buehler vs Marcus Stroman
Sunday is the big matchup and one that will be on ESPN’s Sunday Night baseball. Buehler will be looking to build off of back-to-back scoreless outings. He has pitched a combined 14 innings over his last 2 starts and has not been tagged with a run. He faces Marcus Stroman, who is coming off of 7 shutout innings against the Brewers.
