The Dodgers looked like a prize fighter versus the new-look Padres over the weekend. San Diego certainly made all the splashy moves at the trade deadline, but LA proved itself as top of the class.
Mookie, Trea, and Freddie set the stage for a complete and thorough whooping of the Padres in the weekend three game sweep. But the rest of the lineup didn’t slouch against three of the Friars’ best starting pitchers with Will Smith chipping in big hits and the continued resurgence of Max Muncy and Cody Bellinger who both might maybe not be dead in the water after all. We take a look at the numbers for Max and Cody, plus Belli’s new new swing and wonder if it’s all a flash in the pan or something actually sustainable.
But, before all that, we dive into the head-scratching weekend had by Padres’ slugger Manny Machado. The former Dodger embarrassed himself on the field and off with a bizarre play at third base and a questionable interview where he was definitely too big for his britches.
Next, we look at the injury to Clayton Kershaw and discuss the next weeks for the starting rotation. Plus a wide-ranging health update on several key Dodgers currently on the injured list and where they fit on the roster come September and October.
Finally, 110 game MLB power rankings and a Hornitos final thought on Mookie Betts.
