Dodgers’ Miguel Rojas Announces New Number After Giving 11 to Roki Sasaki

The Los Angeles Dodgers have earned a reputation for buying talent, but a huge reason why the organization is so successful is because of beloved clubhouse guys like Miguel Rojas.

The veteran shortstop not only has great defensive skills, but serves as a great mentor for the younger players. The latest example of Rojas’ leadership was on full display at Roki Sasaki’s introductory press conference. The Japanese phenom put on Dodger blue for the first time wearing No. 11, which used to be Rojas’ number.

On Wednesday, Sasaki thanked Rojas publicly saying he wasn’t yet sure what to get him as a gift in return for No. 11.

“I’m really grateful that a veteran like Miguel Rojas has let me wear number 11,” Sasaki said. “I haven’t decided yet on what I’m going to give, but I’m going to start thinking about that.”

Less than 24 hours later, Rojas officially passed the torch to Sasaki via a post on Instagram.

“BACK TO THE ROOTS,” Rojas wrote.

“This number means a lot to me and my family. More than a decade ago I made my MLB debut wearing number 72 but it’s time to create some new memories and of course the goal is clear win another championship.

“Number 11 will be in good hands. While I was wearing 11 I always wanted to represent and carry the leagacy of the great Manny Mota I compared myself to his game, playing with a lot of passion and obviously the Latin flow that goes through our veins.

“Now it’s time to pass the torch and I’m excited to play behind @rouki.sasaki and help him to fit right in with the Dodgers culture which is expecting to win every single day.

“Miggy Ro.”

Although many championships are won by talented teams, a key aspect of being successful is camaraderie and chemistry. By giving up his number, Rojas has already set the tone for the Dodgers in 2025.

There is already a sense of togetherness with the new L.A. roster before spring training has even begun.
