Dodgers’ Miguel Vargas Enjoys Huge Game at Triple-A

Los Angeles Dodgers left fielder Miguel Vargas didn’t make the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster, but he’s hoping to show the team’s front office made a mistake by leaving him off.

Vargas, 24, had himself a day for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday. Vargas was the star of the show during the team’s home opener.

Oklahoma City took on the Albuquerque Isotopes, the Colorado Rockies’ Triple-A affiliate, and won 7-5. Vargas was a huge reason why OKC came out on top thanks to his grand slam in the fourth inning, which extended the lead to five runs at the time. Here’s a look at Vargas’ second homer of the year and his biggest thus far:

Vargas has had a hot start to the season, slashing .313/.421/.750 with a 1.171 OPS, two home runs, eight RBIs, five hits, and three runs.

The Oklahoma City baseball team ran a bullpen game on Tuesday, similar to what the big league club did in its matchup against the San Francisco Giants. J.P. Feyereisen got the start for Oklahoma City. The right-hander was followed by Braydon Fisher and Michael Flynn, each of whom was promoted from Double-A to pitch in the game.

Vargas is making his case that he should be a permanent player for the big league club. It was quite a struggle for the 24-year-old in 2023. He made the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster at second base; however, he struggled with some injuries and then struggled to hit the baseball. He only hit .195 with seven home runs and 32 RBIs. On July 9, he was optioned and remained in Triple-A for the rest of the season.

Vargas is starting in OKC this season; however, he hopes to return to the big league club and stay there for the foreseeable future. If he can continue to slug like this, he will undoubtedly get another shot.
