Dodgers: Minor League Free Agents Announced

The off-season is not just for the major leaguers — it is also for those in the minor leagues looking to pursue their dream and continue playing the game of baseball. While we might be more caught up in the bright lights and big names that make up MLB free agency, Minor League Baseball free agency is pretty wild, too.

In comparison to the rest of the league, the Dodgers have a ton of minor league free agents who seem to be leaving the organization this off-season. There are not a ton of huge names on the list, but there are some names who you might know as former top prospects and players who have appeared in Spring Training games in past years.

Here is Baseball America’s full list of MiLB free agents:

There are some very intriguing names in terms of talent that are on the Dodgers list. The hope is, though, that the Dodgers retain the ones they are devoted to — the ones that have the most big league potential. Here is a breakdown of all minor league free agents for the Dodgers with their most recent level:

Catchers

  • Jose Lobaton (AAA)
  • Jordan Procyshen (AA)

Lobaton has major league catching experience and was acquired by the Dodgers late in the 2019 season. Procyshen is a 26-year-old catcher who batted .165 with a .489 OPS across 22 games with Double-A Tulsa.

Outfielders

  • Blake Gailen (AAA)
  • Jon Kemmer (AAA)
  • Ben Moore (AAA)
  • Chris Parmelee (AA)
  • Cameron Perkins (AAA)
  • Shane Peterson (AAA)
  • David Popkins (R)

Gailen and Kemmer were signed by the Dodgers in the past few months with Gailen also working out on the mound in the minor leagues. Kemmer is an intriguing bat that used to be a member of the Houston Astros organization. He holds a lifetime .891 OPS across all levels of the minor leagues and is 28 years old. Parmelee, Perkins, and Peterson have all played MLB baseball at one point or another.

Pitchers

  • Stetson Allie (AA)
  • Logan Bawcom (AAA)
  • Yordy Cabrera (AA)
  • Daniel Corcino (AAA)
  • Justin De Fratus (AAA)
  • Louis Head (AAA)
  • JD Martin (AAA)
  • Kevin Quackenbush (AAA)
  • Sven Schuller (AAA)
  • Jaime Schultz (AAA)
  • Layne Somsen (AA)
  • Jesse Therrien (AAA)
  • Tyler Thornburg (AAA)
  • Chris Nunn (AAA)
  • Edward Paredes (AA)
  • Rob Zastryzny (AAA)

Stetson Allie became somewhat of a Spring Training fan favorite with his flowing locks and big fastball. Kevin Quackenbush had a fantastic season for the Dodgers and has somewhat extensive major league experience. Jaime Schultz and Edward Paredes have both seen time with the Dodgers’ big league club with Schultz seeing time in 2019. Tyler Thornburg was once a top-end reliever and was picked up by the Dodgers mid-season — we wrote about him extensively. Chris Nunn might be the highest upside reliever on this list. He’s a lefty with filthy stuff that the Dodgers signed after a video of him surfaced on Pitching Ninja.

Overall

There are certainly some names on this last that the Dodgers absolutely do not want to lose to another organization. While many are just depth pieces, some are also high upside plays. You can never have too many.

Daniel Preciado

My name is Daniel Preciado and I am 19 years old. I am a sophomore Sport Analytics major and Cognitive Science and Economics dual minor at Syracuse University. When I am not in New York, I live in Whittier, California --- not too far from Chavez Ravine. I am pretty old-school for being an analytics guy and I will always embrace debate. Also, Chase Utley did absolutely nothing wrong.

One Comment

  1. Stetson Allie.
With a name like Stetson, he’s gotta be a cowboy, and with hair like that, he’s gotta be in a rock band.
