Dodgers: MLB Thinks Mookie Betts Deserves All-Star Spot Despite Injury

It’s hard to believe, but the 2022 All-Star Game is just around the corner. And since the game is finally being hosted in Los Angeles this year, Dodgers fans are more motivated than ever to get their guys on the field. With the talent that they have on the roster, a lot of good things could happen.

But one guy in limbo is Mookie Betts. The Dodgers outfielder was likely on his way to a starting nod for the All-Star game before a rib injury derailed things. Mookie hit the injured list after colliding with Cody Bellinger in the outfield and sustaining a cracked rib.

But that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be in the game. That’s what MLB’s Juan Toribio wrote this week. The Dodgers’ beat writer talked about how much Betts deserved to be in the game, and that his trip to the injured list shouldn’t change anything for them.

“Betts landed on the injured list with a right rib fracture on Sunday, but the Dodgers wouldn’t be in first place without his stellar contributions. Betts was arguably the best hitter in baseball in May, and his 17 home runs are leading a lineup that has struggled to find consistency despite the team’s lofty preseason expectations. The All-Star Game is better when Betts is in it, and he should be the most deserving player to represent the home team in Los Angeles’ All-Star Game.” — Juan Toribio

Betts’ month of May was absolutely insane. He slashed .342/.411/.746 and hit 12 homeruns while driving in 27 runs. It was one of the more insane months we have ever seen from a Dodgers hitter. That alone was enough to warrant a nod to the All-Star Game this year.

But will it be enough with the injury? The next couple of weeks will determine that, but the fact that the Dodgers are hosting might help his cause.
