Dodgers News And Rumors: Hanley Ramirez’s Value, Overcrowded Bullpen
The Los Angeles Dodgers have talked to shortstop Hanley Ramirez about a potential contract extension that would keep him in Los Angeles.
The numbers discussed in the talks haven’t been released but could be in the range of at least $15 million a year for at least three years, possibly more. Ramirez was exceptional at the plate in 2013 in limited time due to injuries and has expressed his desire to remain with the team.
Also, with the recent signings in the bullpen, the Dodgers may now be overcrowded in the later innings. Brian Wilson and J.P Howell are returning, along with new relievers Chris Perez and Jamey Wright, meaning that at least one reliever with a strong 2013 will be out.
Chris Withrow had a 2.60 ERA in 26 appearances for the team last season and could find himself back in the minors to start 2014. He may be the odd man out in a bullpen that that was ranked fifth by ESPN baseball analyst Buster Olney.
