Yasiel Puig has been a major contributor for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the past few weeks. Puig finished Wednesday with a 14-game hit streak and as the team’s RBI leader, although the success has not come without adversity.
Puig undoubtedly had a tough off-season after facing reckless driving charges and receiving the reputation as the immature and irresponsible Dodger right fielder. When Puig showed up late during the team’s home opener and was benched for the entire game, critics were in heaven as the former rookie sensation was a negative headline once again.
Since that point, Puig has largely matured. Most recently, the 23-year-old had a phenomenal game on Monday, going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. His streak of impressive performances has manger Don Mattingly paying extra attention to his young outfielder, and he has continued to be amazed. Mattingly stated he’s seen a real change in the way Puig has been handling himself and said that his star player seems to be growing up before his eyes.
