Dodgers News: Bo Bichette Advocating For Toronto to Sign Justin Turner, J.D. Martinez

Two of the more productive players for the Dodgers in recent years are still on the free-agent market. Both J.D. Martinez and Justin Turner have yet to sign with anyone this winter, but both are being discussed by teams looking to upgrade their lineups.

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette recently spoke about how the Blue Jays could improve their roster and mentioned both ex-Dodgers by name. Toronto could use another bat in its lineup after failing to win a postseason game last year. The two veterans would be a nice addition to the young Jays’ clubhouse as well.

Until the Dodgers signed Shohei Ohtani this offseason, there was some speculation that Martinez would make a strong candidate to return. He was great for the Dodgers last season, providing a strong, power bat in the middle of the lineup.

In 113 games with the Dodgers, Martinez hit .271 with 33 home runs and 103 runs batted in. Martinez signed a one-year, $10 million contract with Los Angeles last offseason. He wisely figured that by signing with the Dodgers, a strong season could boost his value around the league the following offseason.

However, like many free agents, Martinez has yet to sign a contract for 2024. He is expected to receive a multi-year contract wherever he lands.

As for Turner, there was some hope for a potential reunion with the Dodgers as well. That ship has sailed, and the veteran will be looking elsewhere.

Turner showed he still had some pop in his bat during his lone season with the Boston Red Sox. He appeared in 146 games, hitting .276 with 23 home runs and 96 runs batted in.

The longtime fan favorite received interest from the rival Arizona Diamondbacks, but that was before Arizona signed former Dodgers outfielder Joc Pederson. He could still provide a team with a solid leader and a quality bat at the designated hitter spot.

If one or both of these players head to Canada next season, the already compelling AL East would become even more intriguing. The two veteran right-handed hitters provided the Dodgers with incredible memories.
