UPDATE (July 24, 7:10 p.m. PT): Zack Greinke has been named the starter on Sunday, the four-game series finale between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets.

As the Los Angeles Dodgers scour the trade market for answers to plug into their starting rotation, two in-house pitchers are making progress in recovering from their respective injuries.

Carlos Frias is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday, while Brett Anderson threw a bullpen session Friday at Citi Field complete with fielding drills and proclaimed himself ready to start in the coming days, according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

Where Anderson slots back into the rotation appears to be somewhat dependent on Zack Greinke’s return. Greinke was scratched from his scheduled start on Friday so that he could travel back to Los Angeles to be with his expectant wife, who gave birth to the couple’s first child Thursday night.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Greinke will pitch in one of the final two games of the series with the New York Mets and would prefer to push Anderson’s start back to Tuesday:

Anderson last pitched Tuesday when he managed to throw just 2.2 innings before being removed with an Achillies injury. He was later diagnosed with irritation in his left Achilles tendon, though reports in the days that followed indicated he was making a quick recovery.

Ian Thomas replaced Greinke in Friday’s game, and Zach Lee, on the 40-man roster, is scheduled to take the mound for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday, which presumably makes him a candidate for a spot start. Joe Wieland is another conceivable option as he’s also on the 40-man roster and slated to take the mound Sunday for OKC.

Whichever game Greinke pitches in, he’ll put his 43.2 scoreless innings streak on the line against a light-hitting Mets team that failed to score a run off Clayton Kershaw in the series opener Thursday night.
