Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw Selected As Sporting News NL All Star

Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw had an incredible 2013 season and while he’s the likely NL Cy Young award winner, he was selected as a member of the 2013 Sporting News NL All Star team.

Kershaw went 16-9 with a 1.83 ERA during the regular season and prior to his Game 6 debacle, he had a dominating performance in the postseason in three previous starts. It was the third straight season that Kershaw led the National League in ERA and he also led the NL with 232 strikeouts.

Along with Kershaw, Andrew McCutchen and Yadier Molina were the only two players that were “overwhelmingly” selected to the NL team as it was McCutchen’s second straight year being selected to the team.

Voted to the team by a panel of 14 NL general manager and assistant general managers, Kershaw is on the team for the second time in three years and was the only Dodger selected.

Hanley Ramirez narrowly missed out on being named to the team over Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, due to only playing in 86 games this season. Ramirez hit .345 with 20 home runs and 57 RBI as he was hampered by thumb, hamstring and rib injuries throughout the Dodgers 92-70 season.
