Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw’s First Rehab Start Date Set

Future Hall of Fame Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw will be making his first rehab start next week.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed to reporters on Friday that Kershaw will pitch on Wednesday, June 19 for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga. That will be his first of a handful of rehab appearances as he builds himself up to return to the Dodgers.

Kershaw underwent surgery this offseason to repair the gleno-humeral ligaments and capsule in his left shoulder. It was his first ever surgery, so he wasn’t sure what to expect in his recovery.

However, he made it clear on Thursday after throwing a simulated game at Dodger Stadium that he was right on schedule, and Roberts even said Kershaw was ahead of schedule.

Back in February, Kershaw said he was targeting a return in “July-ish, August-ish.” With his first rehab appearance coming in mid-June, he could be well on track to return sometime in July.

The Dodgers will be careful with their 10-time All-Star and won’t bring him back until he’s 100 percent. But it’s clear he’s making great progress, and will now get to face opposing team hitters for the first time this year.
