Dodgers News: Daniel Hudson Confirms He Will Not Be Ready for Opening Day

Dodgers RHP Daniel Hudson is working back from a torn ACL, as well as ankle tendinitis he suffered while recovering from the knee injury. It was starting to sound like the veteran reliever may not be ready for the start of the season, and on Monday, he confirmed it. Hudson told Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register that he will not, in fact, be ready to open the season on the active roster, and is frustrated with his progress in his recovery from the ACL surgery.

It’s a bummer for Hudson that he won’t be ready to go for the beginning of the season, however, at 36 years old, that’s far from the goal. Hudson is trying to come back from a major injury, and there’s no reason to rush him back for game No. 1 of a 162-game season.

It’s important for Hudson to slowly work his way back, as the Dodgers will be relying on him to play a big role this season. There’s a good chance Hudson ends up getting a lot of work in the 9th inning, so the Dodgers want him fully healthy and ready to go for a long season.

The Dodgers definitely missed Hudson in last year’s postseason, as he has a ton of experience playing in big games. Hudson was the guy on the mound for the Washington Nationals when they beat the Houston Astros in the 2019 World Series.

So, while it sucks that Hudson won’t be ready to go in 10 days, it’s much more important he’s healthy later in the season — and it doesn’t sound like he’s going to have to miss too much time in the beginning of the season.
