Dodgers News: Doc Provides Pregame Injury Update On Three Missing Players
As postseason quickly approaches, there’s lots of looming anxiety around the status of a few key players. Before Saturday’s game, Dave Roberts provided a little relief for LA fans:
Gavin Lux Still Missing From Lineup
The 24-year-old second baseman has yet to make an appearance since his Monday start. On Tuesday, Lux was penciled in before being scratched just two hours before the game due to a neck issue.
He’s taken the past few days off missing his fourth game in a row now but spending a little more time each day in the batting cages.
Gavin Lux said he has been hitting in the cage. Neck feels better. Just giving it an extra day. Hopes to be back in #Dodgers lineup tomorrow or Monday at the latest

While Lux has been away, Chris Taylor has taken residence of the infield position meanwhile Justin Turner has shifted into the DH role. Lux has been a key contributor for LA in his fourth season with the team batting .297 with an OPS of .812 and an MLB-leading seven triples.
But from what it seems, fans can rest assured that the young infielder will return soon and avoid a potential trip to the injured list.
Kershaw Looks to Return As Starter for Thursday
It’s been almost 3 weeks since Dodger fans have seen Kersh on the mound after he left his August 8th start with lower back pain. This was the second trip to the IL for the All-Star pitcher this season.
But luckily, his return date is coming closer and closer as he’s been pushing a little more each day. Here is the latest update on the Dodgers vet who’s posted a solid 2.64 ERA in his 15 starts this season:
Clayton Kershaw said he threw about 70 pitches in his sim game today. His back feels good, he said, so should be in line to return to the rotation on Thursday in NY or Friday vs. SD.

Even though he’s not fully impressed with how his sim game went, the former Cy Young award winner can rely heavily on his 2022 stats and hope that he will just pick up right where he left off.
Interestingly, the 34-year-old southpaw had this to say about his lack of return:
Clayton Kershaw told reporters in Miami he has felt healthy enough to pitch for awhile “This is a roster decision more than anything…Sometimes you can’t decide when you get to pitch, they tell you.” #Dodgers

We can only assume that Doc is playing it safe and making sure Kershaw will be 100% healthy or at least close to it for a post-season run.
Chris Martin to Avoid IL Stint
Last night during a tight game in the late innings, Dave Roberts made a decision to choose Phil Bickford over Chris Martin which rose a lot of questions for fans already on the edge of their seats. The reasoning was this:
Dave Roberts said he doesn't think Chris Martin will need to go on the IL right now. Martin will play catch tomorrow to see how he feels.
But the Dodgers' limited options in the 10th led Roberts to consider inserting Hanser Alberto to pitch even in a potential tie game, he said.

Luckily, Dave Roberts was able to provide an update to Ardaya shutting down rumors of the newly named Dodger taking a trip to the IL.
Chris Martin is playing catch right now. He expressed confidence earlier he’ll avoid an IL stint — MRIs came back clean, just needed to be down a couple days.

The 36-year-old reliever has been clutch for the Dodgers and if he were to step away especially during the late part of the season, LA would feel the difference.
Just in his past 10 game appearances representing the Boys in Blue, he’s collected 3 wins, posted an impressive 1.86 ERA, and has collected 12 strikeouts in 9.2 innings.
Clearly, all three of these players hold high value to the Dodgers but despite their time away, the team is still holding it down until their return which looks to be hopeful and soon.
