Dodgers News: Edwin Rios Activated From the Injured List, Optioned to OKC

The Dodgers are set to play game 3 of their series against the Brewers. Tony Gonsolin will get the ball for Los Angeles going up against Eric Lauer. Following an extra-innings loss that saw Craig Kimbrel melt down again, they’re hoping for another solid outing from Tony.

But before that, the Dodgers did make a move on Wednesday morning. Edwin Rios has been on the injured list since the start of June with a hamstring issue. He was placed on the 60-day IL with that issue and has been playing in rehab games at Triple-A OKC.

Today, the Dodgers activated him off of the 60-day injured list. But he will not be joining the big league team. Instead, the Dodgers decided to option him to Triple-A to give him some more time there. With the way the roster has shaped out, there just doesn’t seem to be room to give him at-bats right now.

The addition of Joey Gallo made it much more difficult to find at-bats for Rios. And it seems like the Dodgers are going to continue to give Gallo a runway in hopes of getting his bat ready for the postseason. That leaves Rios as the odd man out on the active roster.

Before he went down with the injury, Rios was hitting pretty well for the Dodgers. He crushed 6 home runs in the month of May and appeared to have his swing back after undergoing shoulder surgery the year prior.

  1. I understand that the Dodgers would like to get Gallo’s swing on track, but Rios is hands down the much better hitter.

  2. He will probably be released soon. There is no room for him and he can get more opportunities with another team.

  3. When is Bickford and Kimbrel going to do something with there HAIR and I’ll throw Pepiot in on that too

  4. They should open a roster spot by sending down or waving Hanser Alberto. He has no power and a very weak .250 on base percentage in over 100 at bats. Then they can bring up Rios.
