Dodgers News: Gavin Lux Hears From Hall of Famer Who Suffered Similar Injury

Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux’s season ended before it even started in 2023. The young shortstop who was ready to take the shortstop mantle suffered a torn ACL in late February that ended his season.

After the season-ending injury, the 25-year-old couldn’t help but shed tears in front of reporters and teammates. The Dodgers and their fans were devastated by the news, but Lux knew it was time to move forward with the recovery process.

The best wishes came through for Lux from Dodgers Nation and beyond, but none felt as great as from MLB Hall of Famer Chipper Jones. Jones took his time and sent his condolences to the kid from Kenosha.

Gavin told Dodgers insider Fabian Ardaya from The Athletic what Jones’ words meant to him.

“I mean, he’s been through it,” Lux said. “I think it’s cool to see a guy that’s been through it and obviously went on to have a great career, definitely cool to see somebody like that (reach out). It gives you like a light at the end of the tunnel.”

Jones is one of the best players in MLB history and best switch hitters of all time, so to hear comforting words from the Hall of Famer means a lot.

Chipper tore his ACL during a spring training game in 1994, the season he was supposed to make his mark in the league. Jones’ injury was also awkward looking. Sound familiar, Dodger fans?

ACL injuries usually take 9-12 months to recover from, and luckily for Lux, he’s still so young. This is the first significant injury Gavin has suffered in his time in the big leagues; although he has had minor neck issues the past two seasons.

If history repeats itself, we could be looking at Lux as being a bonafide Hall of Famer.

  1. Im sure lux would trade year off with major injury, for a Chipper Jones style career. He should ask Jones what EXACTLY did Chipper do that got him to have a good year he came back?!
