Dodgers News: JD Martinez Heading to IL with Groin Issue, Michael Busch Finally Called Up

As the Dodgers get set to begin a 6 game road trip, they’ll do it without designated hitter J.D. Martinez. On Tuesday, the club announced that Martinez was heading to the injured list with a groin issue. In a corresponding move, top slugging prospect Michael Busch has been recalled from Triple-A and will join the club tonight.

Martinez has been dealing with a lower body issue for the better part of the last month and missed seven games just two weeks ago after having an epidural injection to alleviate some of the pain. He got back in the lineup for four games before another flare up in the area.

In 92 games this season, Martinez has 50 extra base hits, 78 runs batted in, and a .856 OPS in 390 plate appearances.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Michael Busch at the big league level. He last was on the active roster in June when he struggled for an eight game stint. Since then, he’s absolutely torn the cover off the baseball, hitting .333 with 17 homers and 44 RBI while posting a 1.125 OPS over 209 plate appearances. On the season, he’s hitting .324 with 24 bombs at AAA Oklahoma City but just .200 in 15 games with LA.
