Dodgers News: LA Acquires Minor League Pitcher Ricky Vanasco From Rangers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have made another trade involving recently DFA’d pitchers. On Thursday, the team announced that they’ve acquired RHP Ricky Vanasco from the Texas Rangers in exchange for LHP Luis Valdez. To make room on the 40-man roster, the team designated RHP Zack Burdi for assignment.

The Dodgers acquired Burdi last week from the Rays after he was DFA’d from Tampa Bay, so they’re making their rounds with recently DFA’d pitchers.

Now, they’ve decided to move on to Vanasco, who was DFA’d from Texas this week after struggling in two Double-A appearances this season.

Despite the recent struggles, Vanasco has a 3.84 ERA in 53 career minor leagues games. Of those 53 appearances, 39 of them were starts. Across his 178 minor league innings, Vanasco has struck out an impressive 236 batters.

As for Valdez, the 19-year-old has a 2.70 ERA in 66.2 career minor league innings. In eight starts in Single-A this season, he had a 3.12 ERA. Now, he’ll head to Texas as he looks to work his way up through the minor leagues.

And finally, as for Burdi, his Dodger career ends before it even begins. He was brought over last week, and will now head right back to waivers looking for a new home.

Vanasco, 24, was drafted by the Rangers in the 15th round of the 2017 draft. He’s pitched as high as Double-A, but will hope to get higher with the Dodgers organization. We’ll see how long he lasts on the 40-man roster.
