Dodgers News: LA Calling Up No. 13 Prospect Emmet Sheehan

Sheehan is the organization’s No. 13 ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline and has really impressed in the Minors this season.
After Dodgers relievers were forced to cover 6 innings last night following another short start by Michael Grove, the need for a fresh arm that could provide length was obvious. The only question was if it would be veteran pitcher who’s been at Triple-A, Matt Andreise, Sheehan, or RHP Landon Knack.
Sheehan has been dominant at Double-A this season, leading the exceptional Tulsa rotation with 4 wins while posting a 1.82 ERA over 12 games (10 starts). The 23-year-old was a 6th round draft pick out of Boston College in 2021. He was reportedly promoted to AAA last week but has yet to pitch in a game at Oklahoma City.
Emmet Sheehan will be making his Dodgers debut today. Sheehan is nasty. 88 Ks (14.9 K/9) in 53.1 for AA Tulsa. Electric fastball with a filthy changeup. Absolutely love this bold move by the org. Bet on raw talent with high ceiling upside potential.

The questions for the Dodgers now are, will Sheehan start the game vs the Giants or be brought in as a bulk guy behind an opener? And, what will the corresponding roster move be?
A spot on the 40-man roster is already open after LHP Adam Kolarek was designated for assignment earlier this week. The team has options on who to take off the active roster to clear a spot for the rookie making his debut.
Michael Grove seems like an obvious choice to get optioned. He started and struggled again on Thursday. Sheehan could take a start or two from Grove, depending on how things go tonight. Tayler Scott and Nick Robertson are also options, but both are rested arms, something the Dodgers will desperately need over the next few days.
Emmet Sheehan season is here!
