Dodgers News: LA Calling Up Slugging Prospect Miguel Vargas
The trade deadline is over, and the Dodgers are basically rolling with the same regulars for the rest of the year. They did add in slugger Joey Gallo, but aside from that, it seemed like their main goal was to clear out the 40-man roster. They did that by trading away Mitch White and Jake Lamb.
But before their second game in San Francisco, the Dodgers are adding a new name. They are reportedly calling up Miguel Vargas to join the team this evening. Vargas is not listed in the starting lineup though, and the corresponding move was not immediately clear.

Vargas has hit .291 at Triple-A Oklahoma City and posted a .879 OPS in the process. He crushed 15 homeruns in 94 games. While Vargas doesn’t exactly have the defensive prowess to come with the bat, there is no denying the potential on offense. The Dodgers are hoping that power translates to the big leagues.

The Dodgers went out and traded Jake Lamb on Tuesday afternoon. They needed some roster spots to open up, and taking him off of the roster was really the only move that they could afford to make. He heads up to Seattle to take on a role with a team that is also looking to compete.
