Dodgers News: LA Hoping They Drafted a Future Two-Way Star

There are plenty of stars in MLB today with the league in almost every franchise. These stars are the building blocks for their respective teams as well as the personas that the league can market around. However, among all these stars shines the biggest and brightest. A player who has shown immense talent that the baseball world hasn’t seen in over 100 years.

Shohei Ohtani has been proclaimed as the modern-day babe ruth. His ability to succeed on both sides of the ball has shifted the philosophies of many teams in hopes that they can discover and or develop the next biggest two-way player. That includes the Los Angeles Dodgers who drafted a player who will try and follow in Ohtani’s footsteps. In the 7th round of the 2022 MLB Draft, LA selected Christoper Campos out of Saint Mary’s College.

Vice President of Amateur Scouting, Billy Gasparino commented on what the organization sees in Campos and their plan for him moving forward.

“We’re gonna try to do both and figure out a plan developmentally to maximize each, and then just see which way it goes,.Maybe we get lucky and he can handle both. But we love his talent on both sides.”

While Campos may never reach the level of producation that Ohtani is capable of, he may be able to produce on both sides in some capacity. Across 3 seasons at Saint Mary’s College, Campos put together a .290/.347/.373 with 2 home runs and 41 RBI in 303 at bats. He also pitched to a spectacular 1.30 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings.

Of course, the minors are a step up from the collegiate level, and the Majors even more so. Either way, Campos will still have to develop himslef on the field to see if he can stick to both pitvhing and hitting or if he will ultimately have to chose one.
