Dodgers News: Matt Beaty to the IL, Kyle Garlick Recalled From OKC

Matt Beaty goes to the 10 day IL, while Kyle Garlick has been recalled from Triple A.

Beaty suffered a minor hip flexor strain during the final game of the recent Dodgers home stand vs the Phillies. The hope was that he wouldn’t require the IL stint, but the injury seemed to linger. When healthy, Beaty has been a terrific breath of air the Dodgers. He puts up good at bats, provides big hits, and has played pretty terrific defense wherever they’ve put him.

This is the third separate stint with the big club for Garlick. With Los Angeles, he has yet to record his first big league hit in 3 tries. He has a .290 average and 1.014 OPS with 12 HR and 33 RBI on the season for triple-A OKC.

Beaty has posted a .286 clip with the Dodgers in 17 games.

The Dodgers ’embarrassment of riches’ are their young players, and they’re really getting a lot from them right now. Dodgers are hoping to see Kyle Garlick bring some of that power with him for his second cup of coffee.

  1. Frankly, I endorse Hershiser’s suggestion of carrying 3 catchers, one of which is Smith. Barnes can also play second base. Will Smith has shown himself to be a good catcher, and adequate with the bat – certainly better than Barnes. I also believe in adding youth when you can, and right now, we are doing well on the offensive side of the game!!!! Go Blue!!!
