Dodgers News: Miguel Rojas Reveals When He Will Have Hernia Surgery

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Miguel Rojas plans to undergo surgery for his sports hernia injury as soon as possible after the World Series ends, via Bill Plunkett of the OC Register. The Dodgers removed Rojas from the roster for the National League Championship Series against the New York Mets because of the injury, forcing him to sit out of that series.

Both Rojas and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts were hopeful that Rojas could return to play in the World Series, and the team added Rojas back to the roster prior to the series.

Rojas has never played in a World Series before. At 35 years old and planning to retire not too far into the future, this could be the lone chance for Rojas to play in the World Series before his playing career comes to an end.

Rojas did not play in the Dodgers’ Game 1, 6-3 win over the New York Yankees on Friday. Tommy Edman instead filled in for Rojas at shortstop during Game 1, recording two hits and one run in the win.

Rojas did in the first three games of the NL Division Series this postseason, recording two hits on eight at-bats against the San Diego Padres.

Over the course of the 2024 season, Rojas slashed .283/.337/.410 with 87 hits, 41 runs, six home runs, and 36 RBIs across 103 games. He became a significant piece for the Dodgers when Mookie Betts, who began the season as the team’s shortstop, fractured his hand in June. Rojas took over for Betts and was the team’s primary shortstop for much of the season afterward.

Though Rojas is planning to undergo surgery after the season ends, he believes he will be ready in time for spring training in 2025. Rojas has a $5 million club option for the 2025 season.
