Dodgers News: Shoulder Surgery is on the Table for Blake Treinen

A lingering shoulder injury that kept Blake Treinen to just five games all season long brings some major discussions. Treinen coming back to the team remains intact, unless the Dodgers choose to trade him, but in order for Treinen to make an impact for the team he may need to consider getting shoulder surgery.

The shoulder is a money maker for all pitchers and Treinen knows all too well that in order to get back to full strength shoulder surgery has to be on the table. Treinen appeared in three games before injuring his shoulder that kept him out for five months and after just two more games suffered a shoulder injury again.

At the end of the day, it will be up to Treinen but surgery may seem like the best option for the team and him moving forward if he wants to continue pitching at a high clip. He bypassed the surgical option earlier this year but at this point, there may not be any more kicking the can down the road.

With the pitching carousel the Dodgers dealt with all season long this comes as little surprise. Moreover, with the club potentially not expected to explore the market for a new closer, it already puts a damper on the 2023 pitching plans.

Notably, with the extension offered to Treinen mid-season, it’s clear the Dodgers see Treinen in their future plans for at least the next season. However, the surgery in question would likely keep the veteran reliever out until late in the season. At best.
