Dodgers News: Zack Greinke Sets Internet On Fire with Odd Fan Encounter

Veteran pitcher Zack Greinke is a notorious oddball, to put it lightly. Throughout the course of his 19-year MLB career, there’s endless stories about Greinke doing, well, Greinke things.

Apparently, another off-the-wall moment happened this weekend in Kansas City. One fan (@revive85kc) posted a story about a bizarre interaction with the 2009 AL Cy Young winner involving a ball the fan wanted the pitcher to sign.

“Right before I took this picture Greinke actted like he was about to sign my ball… he cam over grabbed the ball and looked at me and then chucked it as far as he could. I asked why he did that… he said ‘for my amusement’. Weirdest player i’ve[sic] ever met.”

Based on Greinke’s past history, the story doesn’t seem fictionalized. During his three seasons with the Dodgers (2013-2015), there were plenty of unique stories involving the eccentric righty. The most famous probably being when the Cy Young winner told A.J. Ellis that if he wanted to improve the team, he would trade Ellis away and sign Brian McCann.

The Greinke tales don’t stop there though. The pitcher apparently enjoyed being brutally honest with his batter-mates. About a year ago, Tim Federowicz recalled Zack’s response to FedEx lamenting his lackluster production at the plate in an article in The Athletic

“I was struggling hitting at the time. I was like, “Man, I really don’t know what to do. I feel like I’m such an easy out.” And his response was like, “Yeah, you are. If I was facing you, I would just throw you all sliders and you’d have no chance.”

Safe to say, Greinke is an odd duck and apparently, you really have to catch him on the right day to get an autographed ball. If its not the right day, the ball might end up in the batting practice rotation.
